Fort Nelson Test Site - Simulation Report

The Fort Nelson Carbon Capture and Storage Feasibility Study carried out in partnership between the Energy & Environmental Research Center and Spectra Energy Transmission (SET) investigated the feasibility of a carbon capture and storage (CCS) project at SETs Fort Nelson Gas Plant (FNGP). The study collected characterization data of local storage and sealing formations; used the data to create petrophysical models of potential CO2 storage scenarios; and combined the models with risk assessments to produce a hypothetical risk-based monitoring, verification, and accounting plan at FNGP. This report focuses specifically on the modeling and simulation efforts of the project. Multiple scenarios with total injection volumes of 50 and 100 million tonnes of CO2 injected over 25 or 50 years with 2575 years of postinjection monitoring were modeled and compared in order to predict the impact of potential CCS projects in the area.
