Storage Capacity and Regional Implications for Large-Scale Storage in the Basal Cambrian System

This report documents the effort between the EERC through the PCOR Partnership and Alberta Innovates Technology Futures (AITF) to characterize the 517,000-mi2 Cambro-Ordovician Saline System (COSS) as a potential CO2 sink. The effort estimates the overall static storage capacity of the COSS as well as the dynamic storage capacity. A 3D geocellular model was created and serves as the basis for determining the CO2 storage resource of the COSS, the number of years of current CO2 emissions the COSS can store, and the requirements for as well as the effects of injecting set rates of CO2 into the COSS.
